THE CLEANEST AND DIRTIEST CITIES IN EUROPE
London is Europe’s cleanest city and Athens the dirtiest, according Tidy Britain Group, an anti-litter organization. The biannual study surveyed areas in nine European capitals for litter, graffiti and other unsightliness. Tidy Britain’s rankings and comments:
London--The highest number of Grade A sites--no litter. Berne--Generally very clean. Paris--The dirtiest shopping street. Berlin--Enormous infrastructure and development pressure. Many survey streets were inaccessible. Amsterdam--The graffiti capital Brussels--Slipped from fourth place since 1991. Rome--The Romans have not yet learned to poop-scoop. Madrid--The dog-fouling capital of Europe Athens--A virtual plague of cigarette ends.
