Big Three Auto Makers Will Research Natural Gas Cars: General Motors Corp., Ford Motor Co. and Chrysler Corp. plan to announce Tuesday in Washington a technology partnership to further research natural gas-powered vehicles under the auspices of the United States Council for Automotive Research, or USCAR. USCAR was formed in 1992 to help coordinate the sharing of pre-competitive research among Detroit auto makers. All three companies have sold or tested natural gas vehicles as part of their efforts to meet mandated requirements for low-emission vehicles in California and elsewhere.
