BURBANK : Family Offers Reward in Guard’s Slaying
The family of an unarmed security guard who was shot to death at a popular Burbank watering hole in May is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of a suspect.
Walter H. Thomas III, 44, had worked at Stuart Anderson’s Black Angus restaurant for about four months when he was killed while patrolling the parking lot.
“I don’t know if we’ll ever really be able to get over it,” said Thomas’ father, Walter Thomas Jr.
The May 6 shooting was preceded by at least two fights and three arrests, according to police and witnesses. It prompted Black Angus management to change the restaurant’s dress code, music format and drink specials, among other things.
Two men were arrested in connection with the shooting, but charges were never filed against them for lack of evidence.
“It’s still being actively investigated,” said Police Lt. Larry Koch. “We sure need any information. We just don’t have enough evidence right now to get a case filed with the district attorney.”
