Share

As the long Fourth of July weekend approaches, fire officials warned residents that possession of firecrackers within city limits is illegal and punishable with jail time and / or stiff fines.

It has been illegal to use sparklers and other firecrackers in the city for more than three decades, said Fire Marshal Mike Carter.

Those who are cited with misdemeanor firecracker use violate provisions of the city’s Health & Safety code.

Fire officials said they will have additional personnel on duty this weekend because traditionally many residents violate the city’s ban on fireworks.

Those caught using fireworks could face up to one year of jail time in Los Angeles County Jail, and / or a fine not less than $500 and not more than $1,000.

Fire officials suggest residents attend area fireworks displays to celebrate the Fourth of July. For celebration locations, call 1-800-900-FIRE.
