GLENDALE : Two Men Sentenced in Firebombing of Apartment

Share

Two Glendale men who hurled Molotov cocktails through the window of an apartment where a family was sleeping were sentenced to federal prison this week with no hope of parole.

U.S. District Judge Wallace Tashima imposed a mandatory 36-year term against Miguel Angel Gomez, 21. Jorge Lopez Camacho, 19, was sentenced to 34 years. They had been convicted of arson, using a destructive device during a crime of violence and possession of Molotov cocktails.

The attack stemmed from a street fight. After Camacho lost, he and Gomez followed the victors home and then made firebombs by siphoning gasoline into 40-ounce beer bottles.

Minutes later, Camacho and Gomez threw the bottles through the window of the apartment where a man, his wife, their 5-year-old daughter and a 3-month-old son were asleep. One of the firebombs landed a few feet from the baby’s crib, the prosecutor said.
