Cycling Without Helmet Is Bad News

I was quite dismayed to see your front-page story in today's Orange County edition. Your photography accompanying the article "Wheels of Fortune" (June 24) describing the new "lowrider" bicycle showed five children and teen-agers riding without bicycle helmets. I am sure it is very "cool" to have one of these decked-out cycles, and, indeed, they may even help keep some kid out of a gang and trouble, but any one of those kids could end up with a severe traumatic head injury because he or she was not wearing a helmet.
