VAN NUYS : Public Invited to Rehab Graduation

Share

People hoping to help someone who suffers from drug or alcohol dependency are invited to a graduation and picnic Sunday for students of a Van Nuys recovery program.

The event, hosted by the Inter-Agency Drug Abuse Recovery Programs, will allow the public to ask questions about recovery from chemical dependency.

“Everybody knows somebody who is chemically addicted,” said Kathie Mathis, the organization’s program director. “One addict affects a minimum of 50 other people.”

A barbecue, softball game and live band will entertain throughout the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Reseda Park, at the corner of Victory and Reseda boulevards.

The nonprofit agency will graduate 17 clients at 11 a.m. Mathis said the agency, which has offices in Van Nuys and Newhall, treats about 200 clients annually.

“Not only do we provide services for the addict, we provide services for the family members, friends and loved ones,” Mathis said.

Cost for the four- to seven-month outpatient treatment program is done on a sliding scale, Mathis said. Chemically dependent clients can receive clinical assessment, counseling, drug testing and other services from the agency.

A donation of $5 per person for the picnic is requested.
