Telephone Supply Not Meeting Demand: Although 413 phones a day are being installed, the rate needs to increase to meet demand, according to the Director-General of Posts and Telecommunications, the Vietnam News reported. Vietnam has 346,934 phones for a population of 72 million, the newspaper reported. The Vietnamese government said recently that the shortage of telephones in Ho Chi Minh City, the former Saigon, caused traffic problems as people were forced to travel to talk to each other.
