An End to Confrontation

Share

Re “Yeah, I’m a Duck, So What?” and “Is This the Sandra She Wants to Be?” (June 25):

Maybe the tide is turning. Maybe young people are getting tired of all this in-your-face confrontation, big mouths, rappers and people yelling and screaming. Everywhere I look, I see pictures of people with their mouths open.

A little activism and a little dissent is fine and important, but how long has this been going on? I’ll tell you how long it will continue: As long as record companies, movie makers, advertisers and news commentators continue to exploit and make money on the product. What a trashy pop culture we’ve been pushing. No wonder the French people resist the Disneying of their country.

I have hope for the dear Generation X. All around me, I see them as a thoughtful young group who may be just quietly thinking. Hopefully, they will ignore some of the worst elements and, instead of yelling about the wrongs, continue to rise up and help us become a caring and decent country.
