The Salsa defeated the Vancouver 86ers, 2-1, in overtime Friday in front of 4,802 at Vancouver’s Swangard Stadium to move into first place in the American Professional Soccer League.

Paul Wright scored from 13 yards in the seventh minute of overtime to give the Salsa (3-2) its third consecutive victory. Wright’s goal was set up by a long kick by goalkeeper Paul Littman, who was credited with an assist.

“It is without a doubt the best team effort of the season,” Salsa Coach Rick Davis said. “The players played with discipline and determination. We have been working hard, and the hard work paid off in the second half and in the overtime.”
