Ron Cochran; Former Television Anchorman

Ron Cochran, 81, an anchorman for CBS and ABC in the 1950s and ‘60s. Cochran joined CBS Television in 1950 as a correspondent in Washington. He also was the moderator of the CBS-TV programs “Man of the Week,” from 1952-54, and “Youth Takes a Stand” from 1954-55, and CBS Radio’s “Answer Please!” from 1958-59. After moving to ABC-TV, Cochran anchored “The ABC Evening News with Ron Cochran” from 1963 to 1965. Cochran began his broadcasting career at WHBF Radio in Rock Island, Ill., in 1935. He left broadcasting briefly to become a special agent with the FBI from 1942-44 and to be a speech writer for New York Gov. Tom Dewey’s presidential campaign in 1944. He retired from broadcasting in 1965. In Palm Beach, Fla., Monday of heart failure after a short illness.
