Volunteers Sought to Help Deputies in the Community

Share

The Police Auxiliary Citizens Team is looking for at least 10 more volunteers to help out the Orange County Sheriff’s Department with vacation home checks, parking enforcement and traffic control.

For the past year, about 20 seniors on the team each have volunteered about seven hours per week to aid the sheriff’s deputies assigned to Laguna Niguel.

The team is hoping to begin another training session for new volunteers ages 50 to 80 next month.

The original deadline for applications was July 15. But after a poor response, the Sheriff’s Department extended the deadline to Aug. 15, PACT member Hal Bayer said.

“You get the satisfaction of knowing you’re doing something for the community,” Bayer said. “There’s something for everybody.”

The volunteers aid with clerical work, checking on the homes of vacationing residents, enforcement of non-moving violations, traffic control around schools and coordinating neighborhood watch programs.

No law enforcement experience is necessary. Information: (714) 362-4343.
