Canada Agrees to Wheat Sale Limit: The government said it will keep exports of the grain to the United States at 1.5 million metric tons for a year to avoid a trade war. Above that level, the United States would apply prohibitive tariffs on exports made between Monday and July 31, 1995, Agriculture Minister Ralph Goodale said after the Cabinet approved the deal struck Monday in Washington. The new amount is a substantial cut from last year, when Canada shipped a record 2.5 million tons of wheat to the United States, whose own crops were badly damaged by floods.
