Disaster Status Given to Salmon Industries

WASHINGTON —
President Clinton on Tuesday declared major disasters for the salmon fishing industries in Oregon and Washington state to assist those who lose their jobs because of restrictions on catching salmon.
Clinton declared eight Oregon counties and five Washington counties eligible for disaster unemployment assistance. The catch has been restricted until March 31 along the coast and the Columbia River because of a drop in the salmon stock.
