CARSON : Council OKs Bonus for Workers, but No Raise
Although no municipal employees will get a raise this year, the City Council has approved a one-time payment of $500 for each city worker.
Council members excluded themselves from the payment, which is funded from a surplus in last year’s budget. The payment is in consideration for a 90-day extension of employee contracts.
Councilwoman Lorelie S. Olaes voted against the payment because of the city’s financial problems and cuts in the 1994-95 budget.
Rather than spend the money on a onetime payment, she said she would favor spending about $147,000 to retain seven part-time workers scheduled to be laid off.
The item passed on a 4-1 vote.
