Legalizing Drugs

* Your article, “Colombian Cocaine Prosecutor Calls Worldwide Drug War Futile” is the most sensible policy I’ve read in a long time (July 18).
The demand for drugs fuels the market! It is the source of our prisons being overloaded. The money alone to build more prisons could be used for improving education.
As stated in the article, “like Prohibition the drug war has created massive police corruption, an exploding prison population and a rise in street violence with no noticeable drop in drug use.”
“Narco-trafficking is a big business and business stops being good business when it stops profiting,” Gustavo de Greif, Colombian cocaine prosecutor remarked.
The United States should abandon the current drug policy.
