Innokenty Smoktunovsky; Renowned Russian Theater, Film Actor
Innokenty Smoktunovsky, 69, one of Russia’s most famous theater and film actors. He began his career in theater and was soon the lead actor in the Leningrad Bolshoi Drama Theater and Moscow’s renowned Academic Art Theater. He made his film debut in “The Murder in Dante Street” in 1956, and won international acclaim for his performance in the 1964 film version of “Hamlet.” Smoktunovsky was also remembered for “Tchaikovsky” in 1970 and “Uncle Vanya” in 1971, which played well in Los Angeles a few years ago. On Wednesday in Moscow after a heart attack.
