Stockbrokers Took Home Record Paychecks Last Year: Record market activity and higher stock prices raised brokers’ commissions, the Securities Industry Assn. said. Retail brokers earned a record $128,553 on average, up 10.3% from the previous high of $116,510 in 1992. Institutional brokers earned a record $304,716 on average, 12.2% more than the previous high of $271,495 in 1992, the trade group said. Median earnings for retail brokers rose 15% to a record $90,000 from the previous high of $78,227 in 1992. Institutional brokers’ median earnings grew 17.5% to $183,236 last year from $156,011 in 1992, surpassing the previous high of $157,092 in 1986.
