Accounting Firm Loses Bid to Overturn Award: Motions brought by lawyers for Arthur Andersen & Co.--for a new trial and to vacate a $1.9-million judgment against it--were denied by a Los Angeles County Superior Court. The firm was also ordered to pay nearly $670,000 in interest on the award, which a jury granted last month to Pacific Coast Packaging of Montebello. Pacific Packaging sued Andersen for negligence during a four-year period when the company’s controller embezzled nearly $2.5 million.
