America West Airlines Plan OKd: The Phoenix-based carrier said its reorganization plan has been confirmed by a federal judge, clearing the way for the carrier to emerge from federal bankruptcy protection Aug. 23. Approval by Bankruptcy Court Judge Robert G. Mooreman came after most of the airline’s unsecured creditors voted for the plan, in which a group led by Texas investor David Bonderman will provide the airline with $214 million in exchange for 33.5% of its stock. America West filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in June, 1991.
