Authorities are searching for a 23-year-old armored truck driver and her boyfriend after the driver disappeared with $1 million in cash. The heist was the third involving an armored truck in Las Vegas in the past 10 months.

Police were searching for Misty Leann Smith, a Brinks employee since April 1, and her boyfriend, Anthony Frisco, 29.

“We’re not going to eliminate foul play at this time, but all indications point to an embezzlement theft by Misty and her boyfriend,” Las Vegas Metro Police Lt. Mike Hawkins said Wednesday. “The speculation is that they have left the state.”

The armored truck was found abandoned Tuesday night in an empty unit of a warehouse complex a short distance from where the vehicle disappeared hours earlier.

Hawkins said “a few thousand dollars, mostly in change,” was found inside the truck.

Hawkins said authorities believe that the crime is an embezzlement because there were no signs of foul play or a struggle in the armored truck and because of “other indicators that we can’t go into now.”

Smith was last seen by another Brinks guard inside the truck minutes before the disappearance, which took place just before noon Tuesday.
