Fluor Corp.: The Irvine-based firm said Thursday that two of its operating units have received major construction contracts.
Fluor Daniel has been awarded a contract for engineering, procurement and construction management services for a $400-million expansion of the Escondida copper mine in Chile. It is the third expansion at the mine that Fluor Daniel has handled. The company also provided engineering and construction management services for the original mine facilities in 1988.
Separately, Fluor Constructors International said that it has won a construction management contract for a $30-million water treatment plant expansion in Reno.
The unit of Fluor Corp. has been working at the Chalk Bluff treatment plant since 1992 and held the original construction contract as well. The plant is operated by Sierra Pacific Power Co. of Reno and supplies drinking water to the cities of Reno and Sparks, Nev.
As construction managers, the Fluor units receive a percentage of the contract value. The company does not release information about its fees on specific jobs.
