Auto Safety Hearing: The U.S. Dept. of Transportation will hold a town meeting in San Diego on Thursday on proposals to to require car makers to give consumers additional safety information on tires, crash worthiness, child safety, roll-over propensity and other areas. Roll-over propensity is a topic of much interest to some consumer groups and insurers who want car makers to adhere to stricter road stability standards. More than 9,000 passengers are killed annually as a result of vehicle roll-overs, a third of all vehicle occupant deaths. Nine out of 10 roll-over accidents involve a single vehicle. The meeting is one of four that the DOT’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is conducting nationwide.
