Bishops’ Panel on Gay Issues

Share

As a gay man, I found the article “Episcopal Bishops Panel Completes Study on Gay Issues” (Aug. 6) interesting, encouraging and a little amusing.

Although I have to give the bishops credit for “wrestling with” the issue, the baby was thrown out with the bathwater long ago. I, along with many of my gay brothers and sisters, have stopped worrying about what the churches think of us. Most of us have gone beyond the narrow doctrines of religion and have found self-acceptance and strength within our own communities. It is as one clergyman who unsuccessfully fought the intolerance in his own church once said to me: “Why would you want to be a part of a church which hated you?” I don’t.
