Golden Systems Expects Loss for 3rd Quarter

Share

Golden Systems Inc., a Simi Valley-based producer of power-switching devices for computers, said it expects to report a loss of between $1 million and $1.5 million for the third quarter that will end Sept. 30.

Golden Systems said it anticipates sales of $9.9 million for the September quarter, roughly equal to sales in the June quarter, when the company posted a $50,000 profit. For the quarter that ended Sept. 30, 1993, the company reported profit of $188,000 on sales of $6.2 million.

Ray Thomas, chief financial officer of Golden Systems, attributed the expected loss to fewer orders from its largest customer--Compaq Computer Corp.--for power-switching devices used in subnotebook computers. Compaq “has really turned off its demand because it has high inventories,” Thomas said.

Thomas said sales to Compaq aren’t expected to pick up until early next year.
