GOINGS ON : Museum Will Ring In a Series About Saturn : Daytime and evening shows are on the lineup at planetarium in Santa Barbara.

From now through October, the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History will focus its attention and its telescopes on Saturn, the solar system’s second-largest planet.

The planetarium will host the family-oriented show “Saturn and Its Vanishing Rings” on Saturdays and Sundays at 1:30, 2:15 and 3 p.m. The program is free with admission to the museum. A show called “From Saturn to Andromeda” will run both days at 4 p.m. Cost is 50 cents in addition to museum admission.

There will be a couple of evening shows about Saturn as well. The first, “Saturn and Its Icy Family,” will be presented this Friday at 8 p.m. Admission is $2. “Saturn and the Moon” will be presented at the same time at the museum’s Palmer Observatory. Cost is $1.

The museum is located at 2559 Puesta del Sol Road. It is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 to 5. With school getting into full swing, the Santa Barbara City College Theatre Group has announced its schedule for the 1994-95 season. First up will be “Six Degrees of Separation” (Oct. 14-29), followed by “The Kentucky Cycle” (March 9-April 1),”Prelude to a Kiss” (April 28-May 13), and “The Secret Garden” (July 14-29). If you’re looking for a romantic evening, this one may be the perfect opportunity. Santa Ynez Winery will be concluding its Summer ’94 Twi-light Dinner Series on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., with Danish fare catered by The Danish Inn. Tickets are $50 per person. The Santa Barbara Breast Cancer Institute will hold a “Rhinestone Roundup” barbecue and auction fund-raiser Saturday at the Four Seasons Biltmore Hotel Coral Casino in Santa Barbara. The $100 admission will get you a buffet, complimentary beer and wine, live music and dancing. There will also be a pretty upscale auction, with items including a watch valued at $6,000 from Harry Winston Jewelers and a necklace valued at $1,200 from sculptor/jeweler Heyoka Merrifield.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the institute’s research and educational programs. Specifically, funds will be used to update a bilingual video on breast cancer to be distributed to local community organizations and cable television. Robert De Niro stars in Martin Scorsese’s “Taxi Driver,” showing Saturday at Santa Barbara’s Riviera Theatre. The presentation is part of the theater’s Saturday Encore Collection series. Looking down the concert road a bit:

Tickets went on sale yesterday for the Crosby, Stills and Nash concert Oct. 13 at the Santa Barbara Bowl. The tickets are going for $39.50, $35, and $27.

Only the cheaper $30.50 tickets remain for The Moody Blues concert at the bowl on Sept. 25. Call 568-4695. The bowl is located at 1122 N. Milpas St.

Plenty of tickets remain for the Gordon Lightfoot show at Santa Barbara’s Arlington Theater on the same night as The Moody Blues concert. All seats are $26.50 for Lightfoot. Call 963-4408. The theater is located at 1317 State St.

Ongoing: Photographer Barbara Parmet takes a look at the struggles many people face over their body images in her new exhibit “The Body Mandala: Sign, Symbol, and Metaphor.” It is on display through Oct. 27 at Santa Barbara’s Contemporary Arts Forum.

Including about 100 photos of men and women invited to “come as your are” parties, the images of slightly clothed or unclothed models ask the question “Who decides what makes a female or male form beautiful?”
