GOINGS ON : ‘Hello, Dolly’ Launches 10th Season on Friday for Civic Light Opera : Weekend events in Santa Barbara also include showing of ‘Raiders’ film trilogy and a Poetry Festival benefit.

Santa Barbara’s Civic Light Opera company will welcome its 10th anniversary season when it raises the curtain on “Hello, Dolly,” on Friday night at the Granada Theatre. The musical, based on Thornton Wilder’s “The Matchmaker,” with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, will run through Oct. 16.

Show times are Wednesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m., and Sunday at 7 p.m. There will be an additional matinee this Wednesday at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $24.50 to $32.50. Children’s tickets are available for Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings for discounted prices of $12.25 to $13.75. Call 966-2324 or (800) 366-6064.

It was 1981 when Harrison Ford and his bullwhip hit the big screen with “Raiders of the Lost Art.” Three years later the sequel “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” came out, followed in 1989 by “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” It’s been awhile, but the films still have a large following.

That’s what the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara are counting on when they screen the entire trilogy, twice, in a benefit Saturday at Santa Barbara’s Arlington Theater.

“Raiders of the Lost Ark” will be shown at noon and 7 p.m., “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” at 2:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” at 4:30 p.m. and 11:15 p.m. Tickets are $10 for all three films, or $5 (adults), $3.50 (children under age 12) for individual showings. Poetry, drumming and a documentary will highlight the Santa Barbara Poetry Festival’s “Drums of Autumn” benefit at Parish Hall on Saturday, the second day of fall.

Winners from the Poetry Festival’s 1994 competition will read works by Robert Bly and William Stafford, and a film about Bly and Stafford will be premiered. Local drum ensembles will perform, with audience members invited to bring along their own percussion instruments for an evening-ending open drum circle. Admission is $6. Call 684-3479. Santa Barbara’s Riviera Theatre will show the seven-time Academy Award-winning motion picture “Lawrence of Arabia,” Saturday at 11 a.m., as part of its Encore Collection series. Tickets are $5. The theater is at 2044 Alameda Padre Serra. Call 965-3886 or 966-4556.

This weekend is a good time for plant lovers to root themselves in Santa Barbara.

First there’s the Cactus and Succulent Society Show and Sale, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. Admission is $3 (adults), $2 (seniors, teen-agers, and full-time students), $1 (children ages 5-12), and free (children under age 5). It is located at 1212 Mission Canyon Road. Call 563-2521.

If that’s not enough flora, the Santa Barbara County Horticultural Society will hold its annual plant sale Saturday and Sunday at McKenzie Park. Look for more cacti and succulents, along with perennials, grasses, bamboos, palms and other plants from around the world. The sale will run 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The park is at the corner of State and Las Positas streets. Call 965-1035 for more information.

It may seem like only yesterday, but it was about 245 years ago that composer Johann Sebastian Bach presented his recitals at Zimmermann’s Coffeehouse in Germany.

In a re-creation of sorts, a trio from Santa Barbara’s Bach Camerata will perform baroque sonatas on Sunday at Bogart’s Coffeehouse. Joanne Pearce-Martin on harpsichord, Nico Abondolo on bass, and Camerata director Adrian Spence on flute will begin their concert at 3 p.m. Admission is $5.
