Doctor in Abuse Case Deserves Praise

* I am extremely disappointed to see my colleague’s, Dr. Annette C. Bernhut, medical judgment being challenged (“Boy’s Injuries, Ordeal Stun Officials,” Sept. 17).

I know nothing about this particular case of child abuse, other than what is reported in The Times, but I do know Dr. Bernhut professionally. She is an excellent, skilled, caring physician.

It is disgraceful to see her reputation attempted to be destroyed. Dr. Bernhut was astute enough to recognize suspected abuse and report the case. In my opinion, Dr. Bernhut should be thanked, congratulated and receive special recognition for saving this child’s life.
