THE GRIT GOES ON

Share

Thanks for “The Man in the Iron Lung” (by Brenda Bell, July 31), but no thanks to letter-writer Leslie Bryant Morton or the other linguistically handicapped who want you to stop using good, strong words like crippled . As a physically helpless, pain-racked cripple with only her head and one hand still functioning, I protest the ministrations of the misguided language police. Fate has deprived me of my mobility, my teaching career and my social life, but I’ll be darned if I’ll let self-appointed disability experts deprive me of my grit.
