Missile Contract Award Challenged: McDonnell Douglas Corp. said it protested the Navy’s selection of Hughes Aircraft Co. over McDonnell to be the sole builder of the Tomahawk cruise missile, a contract valued at more than $1 billion. A McDonnell spokesman said the protest will enable the company “to obtain information so we can get a better understanding of the Navy’s decision” last month. Hughes called the contest “fair and open” and said the Navy made an “appropriate award.”
