CABRILLO VILLAGE : Storefront Station to Boost Police Presence

Share

Hoping to improve community relations and ease gang-related fears, the Ventura Police Department plans to open a police storefront this weekend in Saticoy’s Cabrillo Village, a community just east of Ventura.

The goal of the project is to address concerns of the residents living in the crime-plagued area and to establish neighborhood patrol programs.

A 37-year-old father of four was shot to death Saturday night after leaving a community meeting in Cabrillo Village. Police believe the man was the innocent victim of a gang-related incident. In 1991, two men were killed in the same neighborhood after leaving a party.

The storefront station will open Saturday and operate until Oct. 21. It will be open daily from noon to 6 p.m., and will be staffed by Ventura police officers and volunteers from the Cabrillo Village community.

Additionally, officers will patrol the area throughout the day and into the late evening and early morning hours.
