Alpha Microsystems Posts Quarterly Loss: The Santa Ana information technology products and services company reported a loss of $582,000, or 9 cents a share, for its latest quarter. That contrasted with a profit of $89,000, or 3 cents a share, for the comparable period last year. The company attributed part of the loss to costs associated with a new product line. Sales for the company’s second quarter, which ended Aug. 28, were up 2% to $9.8 million from $9.6 million. For its first half, the company posted a loss of $731,000, or 11 cents a share, contrasted with a profit of $119,000, or 4 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Six-month sales rose 4%, to $19.8 million from $19.1 million.
