For dedicated gardeners, here are suggestions from the California Assn. of Nurserymen on what to do in the garden this week:

* Invest in spring and your garden by planting bulbs, shrubs, trees, perennials and more.

* This is an excellent month for preparing the garden for winter. Check stakes on trees and tree roses. Clear out brush, put old leaves in compost pile and remove dead or damaged branches in trees.

* Give your garden one last feeding of an all-purpose plant fertilizer to feed it through the winter.
