Top-Seeded Team Wins First Match
IRVINE —
Jim Black of Oceanside and Monique Kalkman of the Netherlands needed nearly three hours to win their first-round match in the mixed doubles competition of the 1994 U.S. Open Wheelchair tennis championships Sunday at the Irvine Racquet Club.
Black and Kalkman, the top-seeded team, beat Michael Foulks of La Jolla and Chanteal Vandlerendonok of the Netherlands, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. The tournament continues today and runs through Sunday.
