NYPD Brass Is Blue Over Cop Winning Car
An undercover cop trying to blend in at a bar bought a beer, which qualified her for a drawing for a $14,000 Plymouth Neon. She won.
But some NYPD brass believe that she should hand over the keys. Their argument: Department money. Department time. Department car.
The city’s Board of Ethics has been asked to settle the dispute.
The officer, whom police wouldn’t identify, was at a beach club Sept. 7 in the Long Island town of East Quogue when she used department money to buy three beers for herself and two other investigators. That automatically entered her in the contest.
Deputy Commissioner Walter Mack said in Monday’s editions of the New York Daily News: “I’m hoping the Board of Ethics determines she can keep it.”
Until there’s a ruling, the bright red car will sit on a dealership lot.
