HALLOWEEN HAUNTS : Many haunted houses and horror shows in neighborhoods across the county extend their welcomes and good cheer, along with ghoulish surprises. Here are a few:

1. SPOOKY HOUSE

* 23812 Friar St., Woodland Hills

Spooks and goblins invade Bob Koritzke’s and Dave Rector’s home as brave Woodland Hills Youth Club spirits amaze guests on a terror tour of a specially engineered torture chamber. Refreshments and parking will be available from 6 to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday and Monday. 2. BURIED ALIVE

* 16017 Devonshire St., Granada Hills

Lucifer’s grave ignites in flames when anyone approaches at Gary Farajian’s and Dave Cash’s fourth annual earthly haunt. The two friends have excavated most of Farajian’s yard, digging two waist-deep graves and an underground tunnel system. On Halloween night, the two hosts will alternately be “killed” and thrown into the grave, only to escape through the tunnel and sneak up behind an unsuspecting audience. The other side of the yard sports a guillotine, hangman’s post and headsman’s ax. The executioner’s gory handiwork is strewn about. Free.

3. HALLOWED HAUNTING GROUNDS

* 4343 Babcock Ave., Studio City

A sophisticated sound system with 40 speaker channels and trick projection techniques helps set the atmosphere in the graveyard of the desolate spirits, whose torment is expressed in the sounds of dry winds and bleating voices. Conveyors whisk spirits around the headstones, while a ghostly harpist and organist assist in hosting Gary Corb’s 22nd annual event. Shows are continuous from 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday through Monday. Free.

4. DOUBLE TROUBLE GRAVEYARD

* 513 and 529 N. Florence St., Burbank

Take a stroll through the sixth annual haunts of 13-year-old Keith La Prath and his grown-up partner in horror, Dick Norton. The two yards feature mummies, zombies and a scarecrow. In the cemetery, a hand emerges from a grave and what happens then to the gravedigger is worse than death--but not as bad as what happens to those who sit in the electric chair. Free.

Other free residential haunts in Burbank: 1219 N. Myers St., 806 E. Olive Ave., 3500 View Crest Drive, 2440 N. Orchard Drive, 1817 N. Pepper St., 3322 Brace Canyon Road, 1321 and 1420 Morningside Drive and 1808 Chandler Blvd.

5. LAPD HAUNTED HOUSE

* 2710 W. Temple St., Los Angeles

The Rampart Division of the Los Angeles Police Department is among the busiest and roughest in the city, but the station’s fourth annual haunted house offers a dash of small-town fun for families. Open Friday through Monday, 6 to 10 p.m. Free.

The Wilshire Division, at 4861 Venice Blvd., will also host a free haunted house and carnival for neighborhood children from 6 to 9 p.m. on Halloween.

6. HUTCHINSON-BUTLER FAMILY HAUNT

* 1500 4th Ave., Los Angeles

At Joann Hutchinson-Butler’s 10th annual haunt, spiders are perched in sticky cobwebs, a corpse sits bolt-upright in a coffin and mourners walk around the horrifying graveyard to the shrieking delight of neighborhood children. Black lights and background music lure horror-seekers of all ages. Free.

7. HAUNTED CROWN ROSE MANSION

* 1247 N. Garfield Ave., Pasadena

In the fright-filled tour through this 1892 mansion, visitors will find the ghost and his widow, visit a fortuneteller, witness a seance and flee through the graveyard. This free event is geared toward children from 6 to 9 p.m. on Halloween. (818) 791-8387.

8. DELHAVEN COMMUNITY CENTER

* 15135 Fairgrove Ave., La Puente

Halloween revelers with a taste for terror can get their fill as they journey through the Haunted Graveyard, Jungle of Terror, Crazy Man’s Cove, Bloodsucker’s Barnyard and Horror House Tunnels. There’s also a carnival, fortunetelling, movies and a room with touch-and-feel “innards” from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Admission $1.

9. WAREHOUSE OF TERROR

* 10150 Lower Azusa Road, El Monte

The San Gabriel Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America, along with area high schools, have again transformed 26 rooms of a warehouse into eerie dungeons of gut-wrenching fright. Ghosts, goblins and ghouls will provide thrills and chills from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Friday, Sunday and Monday and from 6:30 p.m. to midnight on Saturday. A toned-down version can be viewed from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission $5.

10. THEATER OF VAMPIRES

* 1238 Lincoln Blvd., Santa Monica

The Santa Monica Jaycees will transform the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Monica into a theater of vampires. The doors to terror will open for the less squeamish from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday and Monday, and a show tailored to the more easily frightened crowd will be offered from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. * The county parks department, many cities’ parks, law enforcement agencies and some indoor shopping malls are offering supervised programs for safe celebrating, with activities that include parades, contests, movies, carnivals, rides and magic shows.
