Tekelec Turnaround Reported for Quarter

Tekelec, a Calabasas-based producer of switching systems for communications networks, said its profit for the third quarter ended Sept. 30 was $1.36 million, compared to a loss of $2.8 million the previous year. The turnaround was on revenues of $15.6 million, up 24% from $12.66 million in the third quarter a year earlier.

For the nine months, the company said its earnings were $2.36 million, compared to a loss of $9.96 million in the first nine months of the year before. Revenues were $42.4 million, up 20% from $35.2 million last year.

The company attributed the nine-month results to improved sales, which continued through the third quarter, particularly of switching devices. These devices transfer signals for telephone calls, check calling card numbers and do other communication functions.
