In the quarter that ended Sept. 30, the company reported profit of $4.36 million, up 38% from $3.16 million a year earlier. Revenues rose 58% to $38.9 million from $24.7 million in the same three-month period a year earlier.

For its fiscal year, Xircom posted earnings of $15.9 million on $132 million in revenues, compared to a year-earlier profit of $9.65 million on sales of $82.2 million.

Dirk I. Gates, Xircom’s chief executive, said the company’s growth has been fueled by increased demand for the company’s network adapters and modems for portable personal computers.

Net income in the latest quarter was reduced by a onetime $339,000 charge related to early termination of the lease for the company’s corporate office. Xircom said it is moving its operations to larger facilities in Thousand Oaks in December.
