Pfizer Touts New Arthritis Drug: The drug Tenidap is the first to ease pain, improve mobility and slow a crippling form of arthritis, and marks a major advance in treating rheumatoid arthritis, Pfizer Inc. research executives told a meeting of stock analysts. Rheumatoid arthritis affects about 2 million people in the United States, mostly women. It can eventually freeze many of the joints, distort hands and fingers and leave its victims helpless to perform even basic tasks. Pfizer also hopes to use Tenidap for the more common but less serious form of arthritis, osteoarthritis, which affects about 15 million mostly elderly Americans.
