ENTERTAINMENT NEWS : Tricks for Treating Your Face Gently : For Halloween, special effects firm offers safe ways to alter your looks--for the worse.
Looking for safe and sane makeup tips for would-be Halloween ghoulies? KNB EFX Group, the Chats worth company that has created special makeup effects and animatronic devices for movies such as “Wes Craven’s Nightmare,” “Pulp Fiction” and the upcoming “Mouth of Madness,” offers this short list:
* To make skin look old and wrinkled: Use liquid latex (usually available at magic or specialty makeup stores). Dab it on with a white latex sponge while the skin is stretched. Once dried, powder lightly with translucent powder. To remove, cover the area with a warm wet towel. The wetness and the heat will separate the latex from the skin, and the latex will peel off. Wash the area with soap and water.
* To give the mouth a decayed look: Mix red and blue food coloring in a cup, rinse your mouth for a few seconds and then spit it out. Don’t swallow.
* To get a melted face look: Mix commercial gelatin (usually available at grocery stores) with warm water in a paper cup until thick and pasty. Allow it to cool, then apply to your face with a tongue depressor or spatula. For best results, let the gelatin drip on your face. To remove, cover with a warm wet towel.
The KNB EFX people also offer these makeup safety tips:
* Test it first on a patch of skin (preferably the inner soft spot of the forearm) to make sure it will not irritate your skin or cause an allergic reaction.
* Always keep the makeup away from your mouth and eyes.
* Be wary of makeup removers. Cold creams and soap and water usually work best.
* Always remove makeup before going to bed.
* If wearing a mask and/or a full costume, drink plenty of liquids to avoid dehydration, and make sure the masks provide ventilation and unobstructed vision.

HOT! HOT! HOT!: Due to popular demand, The Moonlight Tango Cafe has declared Wednesday “Mambo Night.”
“One thing we’ve not had at the Moonlight Tango Cafe is salsa, and people are requesting it,” said Lenetta Kidd, producer of Moonlight Tango’s entertainment programs. “We have a lot of great dancers, and they want the hot Latin sounds.”
“Mambo Night” will feature some top local Latin dance bands, including Johnny Crespo’s Conjunto Costazul and Johnny Polanco and the Conjunto Amistad.
The Moonlight Tango Cafe will continue “Mambo Night,” from 8 to midnight, through November and possibly beyond, Kidd says.

FAT CHANCE: Playhouse West Theater will add a new work to its rotating repertory in November, “Calorically Challenged and Proud of It.” The piece, described as a “1 1/2-man show” by authors Eric Edwards and Scott Trost, will be performed by overweight actor and comedian Edwards (5-foot-6 and 280 pounds).
“Basically, (the play) answers the question: ‘How does it feel to be a fat man in skinny America?’ It plays upon Eric’s size,” Capellupo says.
“Calorically Challenged and Proud of It” opens at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at Playhouse West Theater, 4250 Lankershim Blvd., North Hollywood, and will run indefinitely. Tickets are $7. For a complete performance schedule, call (818) 441-8670.
