SPY POWER: The Cold War may be over, but three U-2 spy planes with new engines were rolled out Friday in Palmdale (B22). . . . Francis Gary Powers, whose U-2 was shot down by the Soviets in 1960, died in 1977 when his traffic helicopter crashed in Encino.
HITCHED? The happy Santa Clarita couple was ready to tie the knot but got tangled up in paperwork. . . . It seems that the bride is still legally married to her first husband (B1). . . Guests invited, but they’re unsure whether to go ahead with the ceremony. Stay tuned.
GOOD SAMARITAN: A lot of people had a fit when North Hollywood’s John Leslie failed the Bar exam last year after giving CPR to a test-taker having a seizure. The Bar eventually changed its mind, and on Friday, Leslie was honored by the Red Cross (B7). . . . But he doesn’t see himself as a hero: “I wouldn’t hesitate in any situation. I don’t think many people would.”
WISE MOVE: A cliff-hanging campus along Mulholland in Sepulveda Pass is taking shape. The Stephen S. Wise Temple in Bel-Air, the second largest U.S. synagogue, is going to move the nation’s only Reform Jewish high school there (B13). . . . The busy temple had 8,500 adults and 2,000 children at the last High Holy Days services.
