Computer Smuggling Reportedly on the Rise: The country’s personal computer industry, already dominated by imports, is now being flooded with smuggled computers, the state-run Beijing Youth Daily reported. In an article titled “Smuggling Is Murdering China’s Computer Industry,” the paper said imported PCs now account for 60% of sales in the Chinese market. But of the imports, about 80% to 90% are smuggled, causing tax losses of hundreds of millions of dollars, the paper said. The Electronics Industry ministry has notified the Customs House to readjust import duties on computers and other related products.
