Smithsonian Gets Gifts of Gems, $2 Million in Cash

Jewelry blazing with more than 356 carats of yellow diamonds, a gift accompanied by $2 million in cash, took center stage Tuesday in the Smithsonian’s Gem Hall at the National Museum of Natural History. The gifts came from Janet Annenberg Hooker, for whom the gem hall will be renamed after a two-year renovation that begins in January.
