Follow the bouncing lawyer: To our list of sightings of O.J. Simpson attorney Robert Shapiro, John Beyrooty of the Forum adds this one: “Shapiro was at one of our Monday night fights a while back, and he signed autographs there.” Beyrooty saw one of the autographs. It said: “Fighting for justice, Bob Shapiro.”

Royal snub: Not only was insurance commissioner candidate Art Torres turned back by voters Tuesday, but he was shut out by the writers of Monday’s PBS special on Britain’s Royal Family.

The TV program showed footage of the Duchess of York appearing at an L.A. benefit in 1988 when a man in the crowd boldly yelled to her: “We love you!”

But the show failed to mention that it was Torres. The British press, by the way, subsequently criticized Fergie for what it termed her un-royal response to Torres’ outburst. She grinned and said: “I’ll see you later.”

The final returns on Hollywood: Sonny Bono, the ex-singer and ex-hubbie of Cher who won a Republican congressional seat in Riverside County, was one of several candidates with roots in Hollywood. Some others:

* Sheila Kuehl, a Democrat who won an Assembly seat in L.A., played Zelda on the 1950s TV show, “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis.”

* State Sen. Steve Peace (D-Bonita), who was reelected, co-produced the 1978 cult movie, “Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.”

* Rep. Robert K. Dornan (R-Garden Grove), who was reelected, starred in the forgotten 1962 movie, “Starfighters.” * Kevin Murray, a Democrat who won an Assembly seat in L.A., was a talent agent with the William Morris Agency, where he worked with such recording artists as Aretha Franklin, Bobby Brown and the Temptations.

* Republican Fred D. Thompson, who won a U.S. Senate seat in Tennessee, appeared in the Clint Eastwood movie “In the Line of Fire.” Thompson played an obnoxious campaign manager.

* Democrat Ben Jones, who lost a congressional race in Georgia, was known for his sensitive portrayal of Cooter in the “Dukes of Hazzard” TV show.

* And then there’s Rep. Fred Grandy (R-Iowa), who starred in “The Love Boat” TV show. He will be giving up his seat after his unsuccessful try for governor earlier this year. Bon voyage, Gopher.

Typo of the week: Paul Little saw it in a Pasadena newspaper--a reference to a building that Ambassador College had once used as a “book suppository.” Ouch!

miscelLAny In Competitor magazine, there’s an entry form for the Nov. 12 AVIA Scramble footrace in Santa Barbara. The form notes: “John Denver fans need not apply.” Rocky Mountain low, man.
