H-P Unveils Its First Color Notebook Computers: Hewlett-Packard Co.’s Omnibooks, to arrive in stores by the end of the year, have an “instant on” feature that lets the user turn the machine off and return to the point in a program where they left off when the machine is again turned on. The Omnibook 600 is powered by a 50-megahertz or 70-megahertz Intel 486 microprocessor. It comes with four or eight megabytes of main memory and a 170-megabyte or 260-megabyte hard drive. Prices start at $2,600. The Omnibook 4000 for mobile professionals, priced at about $3,300, comes with stereo sound and a variety of Intel 486 processors up to 100 MHZ.
