Agency Declares Recession Officially Over: The Economic Planning Agency said the recession that crippled Japan for 30 months officially ended in October, 1993. The recession, which the agency said began in May, 1991, is the second longest since the end of World War II, following a 36-month slump in the early 1980s after the second oil shock.
