The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday that it has allowed Leisure Air to resume flying some of its planes, and said it would closely monitor the charter carrier to assure safe operations.

The Winston-Salem, N.C.-based scheduled and charter airline--which serves Los Angeles--suspended flights Nov. 18 after it was unable to demonstrate compliance with FAA safety regulations.

Since then, the FAA said its inspection team has worked closely with Leisure Air officials and has determined that the carrier may resume flying four of its five Airbus A-320s. It also has two DC-10s and a Boeing 757.

Anthony Broderick, FAA associate administrator for regulation and certification, said Leisure Air has made changes to meet regulations.

“The FAA takes its mission of ensuring the safety of the flying public most seriously, and will continue to closely monitor Leisure Air,” Broderick said in a statement.

Leisure Air runs scheduled flights between Atlanta, Georgia, Orlando and West Palm Beach, Fla., Los Angeles, Boston, and Hartford, Conn. It also flies charters to the Caribbean, Mexico and Hawaii.
