HARRISONBURG, Va. —
Five inmates overpowered four guards and stole keys to escape from a medium-security state prison early Friday.
The inmates took one guard’s Jeep, which was later found about 20 miles away in the middle of the Shenandoah Valley, said Department of Corrections spokesman Jim Jones. State and local authorities with dogs searched the area.
The escapees were sentenced for crimes that included larceny, burglary and cocaine possession.
