AlliedSignal to Cut 1,000 Jobs: The firm said it will eliminate the jobs over the next eight months at the former Textron Lycoming engine plant in Stratford, Conn. AlliedSignal last month completed the purchase of Textron Lycoming, the turbine engine division of Providence, R.I.-based Textron Inc. It said the acquisition would result in job cuts as it combined the business with its Phoenix-based engines unit. The job cuts, due to begin in December, will leave about 1,200 employees at Stratford. The Lycoming Turbine Engine Division makes engines for airliners, helicopters, military tanks and marine applications.
