A REAL PUZZLER

The Nov. 20 crossword puzzle was not numbered and couldn’t be done. I think it’s one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a long time.

We regret having inconvenienced the puzzle solvers. The puzzle in its correct form appeared in Sunday Calendar that same day. And because of our long lead time for printing, the faulty puzzle--an error, not a mind-boggling new format--could not be corrected in the following issue. Cheers to all those readers who defied the incorrect grid and the absence of numbers to construct the puzzle from scratch and then solve it--the pioneer spirit survives.
